Taking its cues from prog rock album covers and a kitsch reappraisal of the music of Queen, We Will Rock You is a madcap dash through the band’s back catalogue via a story set in a nightmarish and dystopian future. The ideologies of capitalism and globalisation have crept across the world and Planet Earth has become Planet Mall, a place barren of idealism and creativity where musical instruments are banned and teenagers download all their music from government-approved computers. The spirit of rock and roll appears to be bleeding away from the heart of the people and the strains of the electric guitar are a mythical sound…that is, until rock revolutionary and predicted prophet Galileo bursts onto the scene with his love interest Scaramouche in tow. Galileo dreams of long-lost lyrics and snatches of rock anthems and decides to defy conformity, setting out to defeat the evil Killer Queen, bring down the Globalsoft Corporation and restore real music to Planet Mall’s inhabitants.

We Will Rock You

We Will Rock You London

Created from a concept by comedian and writer Ben Elton in collaboration with Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor, We Will Rock You innovatively shoehorns Queen’s greatest hits into a thoroughly entertaining and surprising stage show with numbers including We Are The Champions, Radio GaGa, Bohemian Rhapsody and Don’t Stop Me Now amongst others. The London show won five Theatregoers’ Choice Awards in its debut year including that of Best New Musical, and was awarded an Olivier for Most Popular Long-Running Show in 2010. Since opening at the Dominion Theatre in 2002 the musical has proved wildly popular with the public and has remained at the theatre in the years following, where it is fast approaching its 10 year anniversary. The phenomenal success of the UK production has also led to replica shows opening around the world in countries as diverse as Russia, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, New Zealand, Austria, South Africa, Spain and Japan, and there are even rumours of a sequel being penned. For fans of the band’s music or just for those seeking a fun and witty night out, We Will Rock You is not to be missed.
